Maths and Astronomy

At the moment I'm seriously considering the possibility of building a small observatory in my garden.  Something I've been wanting to do for some years but might now be in a position to make it come true.

I've been fascinated by "outer space" since the early days of the space race - and I'm of an age to remember it.  I remember spending all night sitting on the sofa, wrapped in a blanket, watching the live footage of Apollo 11 - I was thirteen at the time.  And even before that, the early spacewalks from the Gemini spacecraft.

What do I want to look at?  Things a long way off.  Nebulae.  Unusual things beyond our own galaxy, such as the Whirlpool galaxy - actually two galaxies in the process of colliding.  But also some things a lot closer to home - our own solar system contains two absolute gems with our two biggest planets, Jupiter and Saturn.  Lots of moons, rings around one, a big red spot on the other.  Even closer, our own moon - which is very unusual as moons go.  Most moons are just rocks compared to the size of their parent planet.  Not ours!

I suspect it will take me some time to get this going, but fingers crossed...

Also regarding maths - there are mentions of this on my diabetes page.  Hopefully helping the diabetic world to manage their diet!

October 2018

I really did intend to add to this before now.  I suppose it comes down to lack of time when you're already running one business and considering incorporating a second.

Anyway, I decided it would be a good idea to join an appropriate facebook group.  I keep reading posts from members about photos they've put on it.  Some of their specs for cameras, filters, exposure times, etc.  They are making my head hurt.  Mind you, some of them come up with some brilliant pics.  My favouriste as the be the vehicle one of them photographed.  An old camper "converted" into the USS Enterprise (complete with warp engines) and with both a telescope and swivel chair on the roof.  Oh yes please.

Despite all that, I'll leave this here and hopefully one day have something to report.  Apologies in advance if I don't.
